Mission

The mission of the Biologic Therapeutics Center (BTC) is to foster bench-to-bed translation at WUSM.  This will embody educational activities to spearhead interest in translational therapeutics and the creation and oversight of key infrastructure facilitating bench-to-bed enterprises here at Washington University.

This educational mission has been initiated by the creation of a Biologic Therapeutics Center Seminar Series.  We have obtained CME accreditation for our monthly series that will bring to WUSM internationally renowned translational investigators (see enclosed seminar schedule).  This aegis embodies themes that are cross-departmental and interdisciplinary but unified by their bench-to-bed ethos.

There has been intense interest in this unique educational vehicle as evidenced thru co-sponsorships from Saint Louis University, The Saint Louis College of Pharmacy and a range of WUSM Departments and Centers.  We have a full calendar for the 2011-2012 academic year and are currently scheduling speakers for the year beyond that.  We anticipate continued buy-in from our current sponsors and also from the corporate community in Saint Louis.   Our future educational mission includes the development of a novel NIH T32 grant that will link investigators at WUSM whose activities constitute a framework for traineeship in the bench-to-bed ethos.

The BTC has partnered with the Biologic Therapy Core Facility (BTCF), a Siteman Cancer Center core laboratory, to provide GMP reagents for phase I human trials at WUSM.  This facility is capable of producing viral, antibody, cellular, vaccine, and other interventional agents that can be exploited for investigator initiated human trials.  BTCF personnel also provide administrative support and guidance for regulatory submissions such as IND applications to the FDA.  This key core facility thus provides WUSM investigators a translational pathway to realize the bench-to-bed possibilities of their work.
